Histopathology

The facility offers histopathological services and training opportunities to the IRB scientific community and external public and private research centers, applying their experience to provide personalized and cost-effective support.

The facility offers a wide variety of histological studies, ranging from routine techniques and services to the development of new approaches (IHC, IF, …), experimental pathology studies, reports and consulting services (phenotyping of mouse, animal disease models, drug efficacy). and non-LPG toxicity studies).

The staff of the facilities also participates in the organization and teaching of specialization courses and master’s degrees in Pathology and Toxicology of Laboratory Animals.

Protein expression

The Protein Expression Core Facility was founded to offer high-performance expression cloning and screening (HTP) activities in which many variations of a protein (e.g., can be performed in parallel. Alternatively, HTP activities they can be directed to the genome of a particular organism (or family of organisms) to clone and call expression many different proteins from a single organism.

In addition, the facility has the experience and equipment needed to produce and purify milligrams of protein from prokaryotic and eukaryotic expression hosts, currently E. coli, Sf9 (insect), and HEK293T or HEK293A (mammalian cells). Many of the protocols are automated, with the installation making full use of liquid handling robotics for HTP plate handling for small-scale expression screening (μg) and automated purification systems (Äkta Xpress) for larger-scale protein purification (mg).

The facility also provides many high-quality reagents for protein cloning and expression, such as competent bacteriophage-resistant E.coli strains, specialized expression media, and recombinant enzymes. If necessary, the installation can also offer custom vector cloning and modification services.

Metabolomics

The facility offers consulting and services in fields of study that require proteomics or metabolomics techniques based on mass spectrometry.

We configure the analysis of metabolites using differential or directed profiles (specific molecules) in any type of biological fluid or tissue including respiratory exhalation.

We will perfect any new test in these two fields required by our customers.

The activity of Proteomics and Metabolomics Core Facility is based on collaborations with researchers to refine the necessary technique, analyze samples and prepare the results. We focus on the biomedical field; identification and validation of biomarkers, disease mechanisms through protein expression profiles, post-translation modifications, and protein-protein interactions.

Microscopy

The Microscopy Platform was created to provide scientific and technological support to research groups and clinical services for microscopy-based experiments throughout all steps from experiment planning and execution, imaging, to image post-processing. The facility provides consultations both IGTP and external groups who require it.
Initial training and refresh sessions are organized for new and returning users on request. Trained and authorised users can then use the facility on a self-service basis or with the help of the facility staff, depending on their needs.

Organoid maintenance and cultivation platform

Histology platform

The Histology Platform provides our users with the appropriate infrastructures to carry out the most common histological techniques, such as inclusions, microtomies, colorimetric stains and immunodetections (direct or indirect), as well as to develop other newer or more complex techniques.
In addition, it offers the processing of varied samples: cells and colonies grown in monolayer and three-dimensional structures such as embryonic bodies and organoids, obtained in vitro and thin sections of tissues / organs on slides (paraffin sections or cryosections, 3-10 µm) and thick tissue sections to be processed on floating or in toto (30-300µm).
The platform allows service requests to be made with technical support, in self-service or in a combined mode, and supports both campus and external users.
In addition, it also participates in training tasks, with trainees both from CFGS and university level, and with courses, seminars and workshops.

Optical microscopy platform

The Bioimaging Platform makes advanced optical and electron microscopy equipment and techniques available to IDIBELL researchers for the performance of the maximum number of experiments requested by the various research groups. It provides technical assistance from the design stage of experiments to the analysis of the results obtained.

Flow cytometry platform

Our Flow Cytometry facility provides users with the state-of-the-art equipment for flow Cytometry analysis and high-speed cell sorting. Unit personnel support users for experimental design, data analysis and acquisition.
Following manufacturer instructions, a proper maintenance and standard quality control procedures are routinely applied to ensure best quality results.

Animal facility

IDIBELL Animal facility provides support to researchers who need to use laboratory animals (mice, hamsters and Zebrafish) in their research lines. The Animal facility occupies about 800 m2 and is divided into two units: one to house mice and hamsters, located on the third floor and one to house zebrafish, located on the ground floor.
