Realiza la determinación de resistencias genotípicas a los antirretrovirales en transcriptasa reversa, en proteasa y en integrasa, además del test de tropismo genotípico del VIH. La determinación de las resistencias se hace a partir de plasma, aunque también puede realizarse a partir de PBMC o plasma con baja carga viral (ultracentrifugación) en el caso de pacientes con baja carga viral o resultados no valorables previos. El servicio funciona desde 1999, y en 2002 el Servei Català de la Salut lo designó centro de referencia para el test de resistencias a los antirretrovirales. En paralelo con esta tarea asistencial, también participa en proyectos de investigación y ensayos clínicos, en colaboración con otras instituciones y compañías farmacéuticas.
