Advanced Microscopy Unit
Services
The Confocal Microscopy team provides advanced services in the field of fluorescence microscopy to IJC researchers and in the near future, to external users, both from the Can Ruti campus (Badalona) and from other centers or public institutions and private The Unit is highly engaged with users through training and support in the technologies available at IJC, supporting the user individually in taking images.
The individual training program carried out by the service staff allows users to be autonomous in the use of the microscope. In addition, the service staff is available daily for troubleshooting, technical support and any assistance.
Equipment
The service consists of a newly acquired Leica DiM8 automatic inverted microscope, coupled to a Stellaris 8 confocal module equipped with a white laser and a 405nm diode. It has PlanAPO objectives of 10X and 20X dry, 25X immersion in water, 40X immersion in glycerol and 40X immersion in oil, and 63X immersion in oil. This state-of-the-art equipment allows: capturing high-resolution and pseudo-super-resolution images; photon counting for optimal quantification; TAU contrast, etc. The stage enables the fitting and scanning of both slides and culture plates of 3 cm diameter with glass or plastic bottoms for microscopy, which allows the analysis of cells in the original support, tissue sections or of clarified whole samples, for example, of embryos or biopsies (whole mount). The quality of the microscope allows high-quality 3D reconstruction.
