Energy Smart Lab
GINYS-IREC-002
The Energy
Smart Lab offers an experimental and testing platform for technology
development and testing in a flexible environment. It. can develop and test
prototypes in the fields of smart grids and micro-grids, renewable energy
sources and electric mobility integration and control, energy storage
applications and energy management conceived.
Services
The Energy Smart Lab offers the following services:
- Grid code validation.
- Pre-certification testing and proof of concept development and experimental testing.
- Grid integration testing for generation/storage/load units, immunity to grid disturbances validation, assessment of electrical grid quality (current harmonics and flicker).
- Testing to comply with IEC61000-4/11, IEC61000-4/13, IEC61000-4/14, IEC61000-4/28.
- Endurance and performances tests for power systems and grid components.
- Battery testing and characterization: evaluation and development of charging and aging algorithmic models, validation, testing and 2nd life batteries behavior characterization.
- Testing of EVs electric chargers.
- Batteries emulation (LiIon, NiMH, NiCd, Pb, Flux, etc.) and photovoltaic panel emulation.
- Development and testing of protocols and communication gateways.
- Study of cybersecurity vulnerabilities and risks for electric systems. The laboratory is accredited by the ONS (“Oficina Nacional de Seguridad”) for the data processing in the Security of limited diffusion level and is considered a ZAP zone (“Zona de Acceso Protegido”).
Equipment
The laboratory with 200kVA i 400 Vac / 60kW i 600 Vdc is equipped with state-of-the-art technology that includes:
- Multiple emulators to control the reactive and active power profiles to simulate both consumption and generation
- Multiple emulators for the electrical real component of different systems of Eolic generation and ocean currents (SCIG, DFIG and PMSG).
- Equipment for real storage testing such as batteries, second life batteries or super-capacitor, etc.
- Climatic chamber, blast chamber, thermic chambers, thermographic chamber.
- Voltage sources and dimmable electronic charges .
- Lines emulator to emulate multiple electric cables and its length, and a real time simulation system.
- Grid emulator connected to the local grid and the laboratory to emulate faults in the internal grid such as voltage drop, harmonics, islanded operation. In addition, the application of the concept Power-Harware-In-the-Loop (PHIL), integrating simulation software to real systems to improve the flexibility.
