The Agilent Seahorse analyzer allows in vitro measurement of the oxygen consumption rate
(OCR) and the extracellular acidification rate (ECAR). The OCR and ECAR rates
are key indicators of mitochondrial respiration and glycolysis as is the ATP
production rate, and together these measurements provide a systems-level view
of cellular metabolic function.

It may be noted that this technology’s great versatility allows the use of other types of samples to be considered as well.
Equipment
Agilent Seahorse XFe24 Analyzer. This equipment provides information on metabolic rates in real time and features a four-port injection system with automated mixing function for real-time detection of live-cell responses to substrates, inhibitors and other pharmacological compounds. The assay is performed in a 24-well plate format.
