Photophysics

GINYS-ICIQ-006
The Photophysics Unit supports basic and applied research on light-induced physicochemical processes, such as luminescence, electron transfer, and energy transfer, in solution and solid state samples.

Services

The equipment is used to characterize fundamental processes related to the formation of chemical intermediates (excited states) in molecules or active optical materials:
Stationary photophysical characterization of singlet and triplet emitters in solution and solid state.
Excited state emission life of singlet and triplet emitters in solution and solid state.
Stationary photophysical characterization of photoluminescence and electroluminescence devices.
Evaluation and characterization of the life of the recombination of loads in solid samples.

In addition, the unit has capabilities in electronic software design and instrumentation in order to develop new experimental equipment in the optoelectronic area.

Equipment

  • CE & POS for DSC

This home system allows automatic measurements of charge extraction and transient photovoltaic, which is useful for the characterization of the capacity, recombination time and electron density of the states of molecular-semiconductor devices.

  • QE / IPCE measurement kit

Oriel 150 W xenon lamp, motorized monochromator PTI M-101 and Keithley 2400. The homemade software controls the entire measurement procedure.

  • Solar simulator and tracer VI

Solar simulator Abet 11000 and Keithley 2400. All measurements are controlled by its own software.

  • VIS transient absorption spectroscopy system

The optical bank consists of a PTI 3300 nitrogen laser excitation source with GL-301 laser dye unit, which provides a variable wavelength excitation source (400-700 nm); a 150 W tungsten lamp used as the probe’s light source; 2 PTI M101 monochromators; photodetector with filter box and Tektronix TDS200 oscilloscope.

  • VIS-NIR transient absorption spectroscopy system (µs-ms)

It is a home system consisting of: an Opolette NdYAG laser system that provides a variable wavelength laser source excitation (320-1800 nm); a 150 W tungsten lamp used as the probe’s light source; 2 Minuteman MM151 monochromes; visible and near-infrared amplified photodetector modules; DSP-DAU high speed data recording and interface software.

  • VI system of stability measures

A home system designed to observe the time efficiency of photovoltaic devices. Time interval programming is supported, where voltage-current curves are recorded from devices soaked to 1 sol.

  • VIS transient absorption spectroscopy system (ns-ms)

It is a home system consisting of: an Opolette NdYAG laser system that provides a variable wavelength laser source excitation (320-1800 nm); a 300 W pulsed xenon lamp as a probe light; home microcontroller synchronization module between laser and pulsed lamp; 1 CM101 motorized monochromator; Hamamatsu H9305-13 photomultiplier tube; FEMTO DHPCA high speed current amplifier; data recording performed by a Yokogawa DLM2024 DSP-DAU oscilloscope; home interface software.
